Jacky Runice
I have an easy barometer that measures how much my kids are enjoying a vacation. It's the "Willie-ometer" - the number of mentions of missing the dog (the aforementioned Willie) is directly proportional to the number of days we should remain out of town. As the vision of Willie's forlorn face comes into focus, the kids are becoming bored of being away. In a place like Tampa-St. Pete, Fla., however, I've found that poor old Willie is on the losing end of the formula. The area offers an ideal mix of active fun and relaxation; urban and beach attractions; small towns and downtowns; and a theme park and water park all wrapped up in both retro and brand-new packages. There are hundreds of lodging choices on this golden curve of the gulf. As vacation headquarters, we chose a comfortable family oasis on a stretch of white sand beach in St.
Play Golf or Chase Animals
What do golfers do when their regular golf courses get too boring and they've got far too much money? They head for southern Africa for a luxury golf safari, of course. Pricey tours head through Pretoria, Swaziland, Durban and Sun City, giving golf addicts the chance to enjoy 18 holes at five different courses. On the off days (or when you think your handicap's just getting too high), you can go on game drives and see some of those African animals everyone always raves about. Power Golf are the fellows behind these luxury golf and safari combinations, and they do provide a non-golfing activity every day of the tour for unfortunate tagalongs and uninterested golf wives. They claim to travel on the most luxurious train in the world, but perhaps the brand-spankin' new Trans-Siberian will be disputing that soon.
Baby chimp born at Elche zoo
A baby chimpanzee, the sex of which will be confirmed in around three months time when it separates from its mother, was born at Elche's Ro Safari zoo on the 18th March. Its mother, Magni, was the first chimpanzee born at the zoo in 1992. The health of both is reported to be excellent. A statement released by the zoo yesterday said that: "It is a matter of great pride for us at Ro Safari to witness the reproduction of this fascinating animal, which is under serious threat in its natural habitat. We at Ro Safari aim to contribute to the conservation of this species, and hope that the offspring of the offspring of the animals at the zoo will help save the species from imminent extinction." .
Dragoman first to offer truck-based family adventure tour in India
For a truly unique family experience, Dragoman Overland has just released a new overland truck adventure package suitable for families with children aged seven and upwards, following the success of the concept in Africa. The tour also features camel and elephant riding, tiger safaris, and rickshaw tours, alongside accommodation ranging from farm-stays to mini-palace accommodation. Charlie Hopkinson, Dragoman Overland Marketing Director said, "It’s a package we've been working on for some time, and we're very excited about it." "We know from the popularity of our African family adventure travel packages that there is real demand for family overland truck based travel that is not as physically demanding but still as memorable as our traditional packages.
